Walled Garden Bistro

walled garden

Barton Grange is still a family venture………built as a country house in 1900 for cotton magnate John Healey JP and turned into a hotel in 1951 by Ada Topping. It is now run by Ada’s grandson Mr Ian Topping.

In the 1990’s, Mr T was delving into the history of the building, when he discovered the plans for a walled garden dating back to 1901.

In 1997 this garden was re-created using original materials and became the ‘Walled Garden Bistro’. The original plan hangs over the fireplace in the lounge, so be sure to have a look at it when you visit.

We make it a priority to use top quality local produce and local suppliers whenever possible, so a big thank you goes to:-

Honeywells, Sandhams, Gornalls, Ribble Farm, Swarbricks and Lakeland Vintners.

Sounds like an awards ceremony………….

Speaking of which……..The Walled Garden Bistro was nominated at the Hi Life Dining Awards for the Best Value Restaurant 2005-2006 and Family Restaurant 2007-2008. We are delighted to be one of five nominees in the Best North West Reataurant Awards 2009/2010 - watch this space for the result!!
